JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN is an examination conducted by the National Testing Agency NTA twice a year, January and April for admission to Undergraduate Programs in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), etc. in the next academic year. The First JEE(Main)-2020 will be conducted in January and the Second JEE(Main) will be conducted between in April.
The candidates have to appear in B. E. /B. Tech. Paper of JEE (Main). Based on the performance in the B.E./B. Tech. of JEE (Main), number of top candidates as per the requirement for JEE (Advanced) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced). Admission to IITs will be based on category -wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE(Advanced),subject to the conditions as would be mentioned in JEE(Advanced) website.
For the April JEE(Main), a separate notice will be issued and the candidates will be required to apply separately. However, candidates are not required to compulsorily appear in both the tests i.e. January JEE(Main) and April JEE(Main). In case, a candidate appears in both the tests, the better of the two scores will be used for the admissions and eligibility of JEE(Advanced).
Eligibility:
JEE Main is applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in the previous year or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in the current year are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) Examination be held in January as well as in April of each year.
Age Limit
For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed XII examination in 2017, 2018 or appearing in 2019 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) examination – 2019. The candidates should also satisfy themselves about their fulfilling the age limit requirements of the Institutes in which they are desirous of taking admission.
LIST OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS
i. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
ii. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
iii. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
iv. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
v. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
vi. H.S.C. vocational examination. [Only for Admission to IITs]
vii. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 year duration. [Only for Admission to IITs]
viii. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. [Only for Admission to IITs]
ix. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. [Only for Admission to IITs]
In case the relevant QE is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level. [Only for Admission to IITs]
Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination
Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main). The candidates who have taken four subjects are not eligible to write JEE (Main) and if such candidates appear in JEE (Main). Only for B.Arch., the candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Qualifying Examination.

Aptitude Test-Part II in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only
Drawing Test –Part III in “Pen & Paper Based” (offline) mode to be attempted on drawing sheet of A4 size.

Details of Examination
Choice of Medium of Question Papers:
The medium of Question Paper shall be in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
Number of Attempts:
The Number of attempts for admission in a particular academic session will be treated as One. The age eligibility allows a candidate to appear in JEE (Main) for three consecutive years.
Application Procedure:
Application form for JEE (Main) can be submitted only online through website www.nta.ac.in. Details are available under Chapter-5 “Application procedure for JEE (Main)” as provided in the Information Bulletin of JEE (Main) (Information Bulletin). Keep the correct details ready before submission of form after carefully reading of Information Bulletin.
Choice of Medium of Question Papers
The medium of Question Paper shall be in English, Hindi and Gujarati. The option of question paper language should be exercised while filling up the Application Form and it cannot be changed at a later stage.
Examination Fees Status:
The candidates are required to check the status of fee payment at NTA website. The candidate should take the printout of Confirmation Page. In case, the Confirmation Page is not being downloaded. The candidates are advised to follow as following:-
i) If the fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in the nearest SBI bank, the candidate should contact immediately the concerned bank to update his/her fee status on the website.
ii) If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not OK, wait for at least 48 hours for updation. If still not updated, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will automatically be refunded to concerned credit/debit card within 7 – 10 days. Therefore, such candidates have to pay the fee once again and ensure the OK fee status.
Multiple Applications:
Multiple forms leads to cancellation of Application Form of JEE (Main). However, NTA will accept one Application Form and Admit card will be issued on only single Application Form.
Examination Rules:
Candidates are not allowed to carry calculators or any other electronic device in the examination centre.
It is not necessary to appear in JEE (Main) twice. This would be optional for the candidate to appear once or twice for the current academic session. In case a candidate appears in both the tests, the better of the two scores will be used for the admissions and eligibility for JEE (Advance) they have attempted both the examinations, best of the scores would be taken for the merit list.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING IN JEE (Advanced)
The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (Advanced) is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12thor equivalent qualifying examination Those appearing in these examinations in current year can also appear in JEE (Advanced) provisionally.
All the candidates aspiring to take admission to the undergraduate programs at IITs will have to appear in the Paper-1 (B. E. /B. Tech.) of JEE (Main). Based on the performance in Paper-1 (B. E. /B. Tech.) of JEE (Main), number of top candidates as per the requirement of JEE (Advanced) (including all categories) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced).
Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced), subject to conditions as defined in JEE (Advanced) website.
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the Qualifying Examination.
